Having a black bike, black helmet, black jacket and black Draggin jeans I figured I was as hard to see as the other guys on bikes that I have trouble seeing when I’m driving. I just bought this Hi Vis Jacket from Bikers Gear at Phillip Island. Tried it out yesterday afternoon. The jacket itself is excellent value at only $99. It is very comfortable and seems to be completely water proof and wind proof. I was warm as toast the entire ride – makes a nice change. Early days and maybe wishful thinking but first perception is that car drivers seemed to give me a lot more space that usual – maybe Ive just given them something to aim at but looking forward to testing in peak hour traffic.

Its been little under 12 months since i bought the Hi Vis Jacket from Bikers Gear Australia. IN that time I have had to replace the velcro in all areas, stiching in the arm is coming away in the arms and right hand side pocket. I dare not wear it in cold days, below 14 degrees C without at least 2 jumpers under it as it doesnt provide enough warmth from the cold. I would definatley advise not wearing this product in wet weather wihout a rain suit over it, something they tell you after purchase of the so call all weathe jacket. It doesnt provide an protection at all from rain or wind. In my personal view it fails in many areas. The sellers would do well not to advertise it as an “all weather” jacket as it definatly does not fall into this catigory.

Good point – couldn’t agree more. I installed HED headlights and flashing brake lights – cant do much more than that. I still cringe when I see riders in shorts, t-shirt and even thongs with pillion on back in similar.
Back to Safety.
I am always amused at riders who complain that motorists dont see them out there on the road.
Their in all black or dark colours and the bike is dark in colour. I work as a motorcycle courier and since putting high vis tape on the front of my bike and wearing a high vis jacket motorists awarness has incressed by 100%. I no longer find motorists pulling out in front of me. Bike rideing shouldnt be about a fashion statment but rather a statement of safety.
That makes sense. The Dri Rider liner has a fleecy inner with a water proof skin on the outside which seems to work really well. The neat part is that the liner can be worn on its own as a warm casual jacket (reversible) which Ive done a few times. The liner is mostly too hot for qld except early morning but so I sometimes use the quilted nylon liner from the Bikers Gear Jacket!
It wasnt the seems or the neck that let in the amount of water that I experienced. If it was I would expect wetness in certain areas not all over and right through. I did do my own experiments with it in attempt to make it all weather waterproof. I inserted a waterproof jacket between the outershell and the inner lining. This works a treat, no more wetness or freezing cold morning riding experiences. The tourmaster jacket is available at wholesale to the public direct from the manufacturer in asia. The tourmaster range was desingned in the Uk which has very similair weather conditions to Tasmania. You can get it on http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=tourmaster+motorcycle+jacket&CatId=0 its less than AU$200.00 which includes shipping. Its definatly worth the investment.
Thanks for the feedback, Ive been pretty happy with mine but only been tested in QLD in light rain and Ive got full screen and fairings. Looking at the fabric and the removable quilted lining I can see how it may not be 100% waterproof in heavy rain. Can’t complain about the price but. Did the water go thru the fabric or down the neck or do the seams leak? No real test or standard for “waterproofness” and talking to mates who’ve ridden in the worst conditions, not too many jackets on their own are completely 100% waterproof despite the claims. I’ve also got a Dri Rider Rallycross which I got for a bargain from http://www.bikebiz.com.au (normally $400 now $180) and again I haven’t had it in heavy rain but it is a lot warmer (too warm for up here) and the removable liner appears to be a lot more waterproof. The Tourmaster is a nice looking bit of gear – I’d be keen to find out how it goes. Anyone else got any feedback?
I recently purchased the high vis and 2 others from Bikers Gear Australia. I purchased these with the undestanding that they would be what they stated, all weather water proof jackets.
I live in Tasmania and have been bitterly disapointed with the product. The wind penetrates the jacket needing at least 3 jumpers under it to stay warm, at the first rainy day in hobart I was soacked through. They are definatly not all weather water proof jackets. How this claim of all weather waterproof is made is beyond me.Bikers Gear Australia recomends a wet weather suit over the product, which I only found out when contacting them to complain about the product and their claim.. If it was truly waterproof I wouldnt need this. I am going back to a Tourmaster High Vis as it is what it states, allweather and waterproof.
