On Safe Lines have released their new TIRA free software. TIRA stands for Task Inventory and Risk Assessments and is a comprehensive risk management and analysis program, designed to be used by both the safety professional and those with part time safety responsibilities. The screen shots and description look very impressive, particularly for a free program. I haven’t reviewed the program but will do a review when I get a chance. Thoughts of others who have tried it would be welcome Download the program here
Recent review from a user (added 24th August 2010):
A quite impressive risk management tool.
Covers the following elements of Risk Assessment Management
Task Inventories
General Risk Assessment (Task Based) Risk Assessments
Display Screen Equipment Risk Assessments
Manual Handling Risk Assessments
Work Equipment Risk Assessments
Workplace Risk Assessments
Each type of risk assessment has its own input screen, and it’s like having six programs wrapped up neatly into one.
The risk assessment input screens are logically laid out and then allow all the right questions to be asked and recorded. The questions are preset; however they appear to be the right questions.
Once you input your risk assessment the programme allows you to print the assessment in a professional looking report.
Each assessment type has the facility to record not only the assessment findings but also any risk assessment briefing required for that specific risk assessment as well as how and when individuals were briefed.
The programme also allows for tracking of remedial action by who, where, when, etc.
Looking at the reports there also appears to be a section for statistical data on risk assessment performance and outstanding actions.
It appears to be an extremely well laid out and carefully thought out piece of health and safety software.

On Safe Lines launches TIRA version 2.00.
Enhancements include;
1. Duplicate complete records (which will also allow you to create template risk assessment for quickly replicating and adjusting to suit)
2. Read Only or Read Write access
3. Spell Checking on all memo fields (ability to add words to users own dictionary)
4. Automatic screen resolution adjustments (to match the display screen monitor being used)
5. Export reports to Pdf or Xps
6. New backend file linking routine to assist in moving or networking TIRA’s data files
Plus a few other minor changes to improve the overall programme functionality.
