WorkCover reminded businesses to ensure safety of young workers – The unsaid implications
This recent news story caught my eye, and with a large percentage of companies returning to work on Monday I thought it was important to share it with you. In our experience these ‘reminders’ are thinly disguised warnings. There is no question a clampdown is in operation which means examples will be made of companies in an effort to generate free publicity.
That is not to say we don’t all have a responsibility to provide our workers with a safe environment, especially those who are new to the working environment, I am just saying employers lives can be destroyed when something terrible happens as well so please be vigilant.
WorkCover reminded businesses to give extra attention to young workers who may be starting their first job in this year.
WorkCover’s Work Health and Safety Division General Manager John Watson said that many young workers and school leavers may underestimate the importance of safety in the workplace.
“With thousands of young people entering the workforce for the first time, it is essential for everyone in the workplace to step up and take special care to alert young workers to potential safety hazards,” said Mr Watson.
